The Western Maryland received 800 1937 AAR design boxcars in the late 1940’s. The cars had 7’ wide Youngstown doors and Duryea underframes and an
inside height of 9‘-11”. They were delivered and assigned as follows:
Series 28201-28300, 100 cars, General American Transportation Corp, Lot 2954 - delivered June 1945 -7’ Youngstown doors Duryea u/f
Series 28501-28800, 300 cars, Bethlehem Steel Corp, Lot 88 - delivered July 1946 - 7’ Youngstown doors, Duryea u/f
Series 28801-29000, 200 cars, Bethlehem Steel Corp, Lot 104 - delivered March 1947 - 7’ Youngstown doors, Duryea u/f
Series 29001-29200, 200 cars, Pressed Steel Corp, Lot 357 - delivered January 1949 - 7’ Youngstown doors, Duryea u/f
Paint & Lettering: WM freight car red: TCP-927*. Speed Lettering stripes adopted in 1953 and painted with white stencil paste.
