lettering set for Cudahy Refrigerator Line - 40’ leased wood reefers
Cudahy Packing Company in 1920 had over 2,000 leased 37’ and 40‘ wood refrigerator cars - either from Mather or General American Car Co. Leased cars used
the CRLX reporting marks (see Protocraft Decals CRLX-1). Cars owned by Cudahy carried the NMCX reporting marks. By 1940, the total number was down to
around 1,000 cars, and in 1942 the lease was cancelled. By the mid-1960’s the cars dissapeared from the roster.
Paint & Lettering: Sides painted reefer orange. Ends, toe kick and roof as well as the trim under the roof, painted mineral red. Underframe and truck side frames
coated with black car cement. Side lettering all black; white on ends.
